How to reach Tioman Island from Singapore by bus

Travelers can easily make their way from Singapore to Tioman via bus services offered by companies like Transnasional and Discovery Tours and Travels. For instance, Discovery Tours departs daily at 06:40 AM from the DFS Galleria, just a short walk from the Orchard MRT station. The journey to Mersing takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes, and you will arrive directly at the Mersing Jetty—the point where ferries to Tioman depart.

Be prepared for a quick border crossing, as the processing time for the Malaysian visa is generally efficient. During the trip, the bus stops for breakfast; be sure to try the local delicacy, roti with teh tarik!

• The one-way ticket price from Singapore to Mersing is around 22 SGD.
• For convenience, you can also book a bus and ferry package for 76 SGD round trip.

Ferry service from Mersing to Tioman Island

Once you've arrived in Mersing, the next step is to take the ferry to Tioman. We recommend booking your tickets with Blue Water Express. The ferry schedule does vary due to tidal changes, but you can often choose between departures around 09:30 AM and 11:30 AM. On our visit, we found ourselves boarding the 09:30 ferry at 10 AM, just in time!

• The ferry stops at six different jetties on Tioman Island: Genting, Paya, Tekek, ABC, Panuba, and Salang, with the first stop taking about an hour and a half.

• Ticket prices are around 35 MYR for a one-way trip and 70 MYR for a round trip, with a minor fee if you pay via PayPal. You will receive a confirmation email shortly after, so ensure to respond to confirm your return date.

• At Mersing Jetty, look for the Blue Water Express counter (usually number 8), where you can present your reservation to collect your tickets and confirm your return date.
