Bromo Indonesia: Descubre el Mejor Amanecer y Consejos

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where everything seems to go wrong, but somehow it turns into a remarkable adventure? Welcome to the experience of two backpackers who nearly got scammed during their visit to Mount Bromo on the island of Java, Indonesia. Their story is a rollercoaster of emotions, unexpected twists, and, ultimately, a breathtaking sunrise. Buckle up as we delve into "The Best Sunrise in Java: A Tale of Deception and Redemption."
The best sunrise in Java: The first false dawn
It was 3:45 AM, and the excitement in the air was palpable as Roby (R) and Lety (L) found themselves squeezed in the back of a minivan. The early hour didn’t dampen their spirits, but something felt off.
- R: I find it odd that we’re not in a Jeep.
- L: Maybe he just likes us more than the others!
- R: Sure, but everyone else is in a Jeep, and we aren’t.
Their conversation hinted at an underlying suspicion. They were supposed to be part of a Jeep tour, a common way to experience the stunning views of Bromo’s sunrise, but instead, they were stuck in a cramped vehicle with an enigmatic travel agent (E) who seemed to have other plans.
Toma 1: CLACK!
- R: Why are we in this car and not in a Jeep?
- E: My friend, this is more comfortable. I’ll take you to the viewpoint for the best sunrise of your life.
- R: And then to the Hindu temple and near the crater, right?
- Silence…
- E: Um, no. With this car, I can only take you to the viewpoint.
- R: I told you, Lety! This guy is scamming us!
- L: I can't believe it.
- R: No! We booked a Jeep tour. We want a Jeep, not this junk.
- E: You're right, but all the Jeeps are full.
- R: Then find us one!
- E: But I rented this car to take you; it’s the same!
- L: But you just said you can’t take us beyond the viewpoint!
As the tension rose, Roby and Lety realized they were in a precarious situation, far from the adventure they had envisioned. More unfortunate souls joined their plight as the doors swung open.
- R: Lety, get out!
They hopped out and started chatting with another couple, who had also booked a Jeep tour, but their vehicle mysteriously did not exist. It seemed the scam network between Probolinggo and this quiet mountain village was more extensive than they had anticipated.
- R: We didn’t get what we paid for. Either give us our money back or sort this mess out!
The travel agent appeared to have lost his ability to communicate in English but was still keen on making phone calls to his scam accomplice (CE). Roby took the call:
- CE: What’s the problem? You have a car to see the sunrise.
- R: The issue is that it doesn’t go where the Jeep does.
- CE: Yes, it’s the same.
- R: No, your friend is mistaken. We want our money back.
Awkward silence reigned.
- CE: Okay.
- L: Then give us our money back.
- E: If I refund you… for the Jeep.
- R: No way! Give us everything back, or we’ll go to the police.
- E: Okay.
- R+L: Okay!
As the air crackled with tension, Roby and Lety felt the weight of the situation. After another round of phone calls, they reached a compromise that would allow them to stay another day and secure the Jeep tour for the following morning.
And while this drama unfolded, the skies above Java began to paint the most magnificent sunrise they had ever witnessed.
The best sunrise in Java: The second false dawn
After a long night of worry and hassle, the tension continued to rise as they approached the hotel’s reception area.
- R: What does "NO UP" beside our room number mean?
- L: Obviously, they don't want to wake us up in case we oversleep, and then it would be our fault.
- RC: I don’t understand; I don’t understand…
- R: Are they trying to pull a fast one again?!
- L: Hey, what’s our Jeep?
- RC: You don’t have a Jeep.
- R – L: HIIIIJOOOOSSSS DE P………
Frustration boiled as they realized the saga was far from over. Yet, their persistence paid off when they finally got a seat in a Jeep!
The best sunrise in Java: The real deal
Finally, Roby and Lety were on their way, sharing the Jeep with a couple from Germany. The excitement surged as they drove toward the viewpoint to witness the sunrise. With the anticipation building, they also visited the Hindu temple, shrouded in mist and mystery.
After that, they faced the steep climb up to the crater, panting and struggling against the thin, sulfurous air. But when they reached the summit, the view was worth every ounce of effort. The sunrise painted the sky with vibrant colors, illuminating the landscape in a way that words could hardly describe.

Essential information: The moral of the story
When booking a tour, especially in tourist hotspots like Bromo, it’s crucial to be cautious. Here are some tips to avoid scams:
- Pay half the agreed amount upfront and the rest at the end of the tour.
- Ensure everything you booked is clearly listed on the receipt.
- Consider planning your trip independently; although it might be slightly more expensive, it’s often more reliable.
For their trip, Roby and Lety had booked a package that included:
- Round trip to a village near Mount Bromo from Probolinggo.
- One night in a hotel with breakfast.
- The Jeep tour (viewpoint, Hindu temple, crater).
- Park entrance fees.
- Bus from Probolinggo to Yogyakarta.
Initially, the price was set at 800,000 IRP for two (around 40€ each), but they managed to negotiate it down to 600,000 IRP (30€ each). They discovered that other couples paid at least 700,000 IRP, which made it evident that the agent had to find ways to maximize his profit margin.
Fortunately, Roby was astute enough to recognize the scam, which was a major factor in their eventual success. In contrast, another couple who shared their ordeal had not ensured their Jeep tour was included in writing and found themselves out of luck despite having paid for it.
