Where to find the best pizza in Barcelona

In this guide, we’ll introduce you to eight pizzerias in Barcelona that have won our hearts with their incredible pizzas, reminiscent of those found in Naples. Expect authentic flavors, high-quality ingredients, and maybe a surprise or two along the way. Are you ready to indulge in the most famous Italian dish? Let’s dive into the best pizzas in Barcelona!

1. La Balmesina

For us, La Balmesina serves THE BEST pizza in all of Barcelona. This isn't a secret; both of their locations are among the most popular when it comes to pizza. The pizzas here are crafted with sourdough made from organic flour and long fermentation (72 hours), making them light and highly digestible. You'll find pizzas that celebrate Italian traditions, featuring ingredients from Italy (like homemade porchetta or buffalo mozzarella) while also incorporating local elements.

We highly recommend making a reservation a few days in advance, especially if you want to take advantage of their lunchtime special: for just €12.90, you get a daily menu that includes a pizza of your choice, a drink, and dessert (definitely pay the €2.80 extra for the tiramisu—it's divine!).

Our favorites include the Búfala (with fresh buffalo mozzarella, uncooked, tomato, and basil) and the Prosciutto e Funghi. Both were absolutely delicious. On another visit, we also tried the Margherita, which was equally outstanding.

2. Grosso Napolitano

Another contender for the best pizza in Barcelona is Grosso Napolitano, which has multiple locations throughout the city. They’ve made it clear that anyone who wants to be the king of pizza here must compete with them. One of their locations even offers gluten-free options!

Their pizza boasts a thin and elastic crust, with fluffy, non-crunchy edges, epitomizing the authentic pizza “fatta a Napoli.” A crucial step in achieving such deliciousness is baking it in a wood-fired oven for 60-90 seconds, using top-quality Italian products such as San Marzano tomatoes and DOP mozzarella.

We sampled the Margherita (a classic) and the Nobile Borghese (with truffle cream base, fiordilatte mozzarella, speck, and sautéed mushrooms with garlic and parsley). We preferred the Margherita, as for us, the tomato is an essential component of any pizza.

3. Sartoria Panatieri

Moving on to Sartoria Panatieri, where you’ll find some of the best pizzas in Barcelona. The name combines the surnames of its two founders: Rafa Panatieri and Jorge Sastre, both trained in high-end restaurants (in Italian, “sartoria” means tailoring). We’ve been here several times, and we can’t resist the burrata and pesto pizza—it’s fantastic.

The artisanal dough is made with locally sourced organic flour, and the ingredients are a mix of local products and those imported directly from Italy. Their charcuterie selection, featuring artisanal cured meats, is particularly noteworthy.

If you’re not a fan of slightly charred pizza, you might want to be cautious; it can be a bit of a lottery regarding how the base turns out. On one occasion, we found the pizza base slightly burnt, but it’s worth taking the risk. To avoid disappointment, just let them know your preference when ordering.

4. Can Pizza

Living near Can Pizza in Sagrada Familia has its perks (and downsides, depending on your waistline), as we visit frequently and have become connoisseurs of their offerings. While we think their pizza is excellent, it falls slightly short of the top three. However, if you’re craving a delicious pizza while visiting the Sagrada Familia, this is the perfect spot.

Can Pizza also has locations in the Poblenou neighborhood and Plaza Universitat, with beautiful decor and great customer service.

In 2021, they won an award for best pizza in Spain with their Jerry Tometo (topped with oregano, basil, thyme, burrata, cherry tomatoes, pickled onions, and garlic), but we personally prefer the Margherita or the Boscaiola (with sausage and mushrooms). We might not be original, but remember, it’s not unusual in Italy to order a Margherita.

5. Le Romane

Forget about traditional Neapolitan pizza; here, the star is the Roman pizza—and what a pizza it is! I discovered this gem thanks to my friend Eva, or rather, her parents (kudos to those resourceful Romans), and we couldn’t have been happier.

Our recommendation is to either go for the daily menu (which includes an appetizer, pizza, and drink) or share a four-flavors pizza platter (16 square slices in total) among 2 or 3 people.

We tried the zucchini and fontina, mozzarella with potatoes and sausage, zucchini à la amatriciana, and gricia—and every single one was incredible.

6. NAP

In the heart of El Born, you’ll find this Neapolitan spot that serves another contender for the best pizza in Barcelona. Their thin crust (made with sourdough), premium ingredients, and very competitive prices make us fans!

They are particularly attentive to the requirements for a 100% authentic Neapolitan pizza: they are 35 cm in diameter, the dough rests for 24 hours, and the edges are high and fluffy.

We tried the Margherita with sausage and the Crudo Parma, topped with parma ham, arugula, and shavings of parmigiano reggiano. The homemade tiramisu is a must-try and the perfect way to end your meal!

Extra points: on our visits, the staff have always been friendly and welcoming, creating a great atmosphere at this location in El Born, which has several other branches throughout Barcelona and in various cities across Spain.

7. Bellillo Pizzeria Napoletana

What a surprise this pizzeria has been! Without a doubt, they serve one of the best pizzas in Barcelona, and it’s a spot that isn’t overly well-known. Their main principles include using organic products sourced directly from the Campania region (where Naples is located), always opting for the most responsible brands. The crust is light and digestible, and the San Marzano tomatoes are simply delicious.

We ordered the classic Margherita (by now, you probably understand that it’s my go-to pizza) and the Bellillo Revisited, the house specialty with Neapolitan ragù sauce. Make sure to add this to your list—10 out of 10!

8. Parking Pizza

On a recent visit, I enjoyed a delicious pizza here with friends, and we all agreed it was to die for. I tried the Speck pizza (paying homage to my homeland), with scamorza, parmesan, arugula, and basil oil.

Additionally, the venue, which is situated in a former parking garage, has a unique industrial vibe that we personally love. It has two other locations in the Eixample Esquerra area. You can’t go wrong with Parking Pizza. Their tiramisu is also the perfect finishing touch to a fabulous meal!
