Where to stay in Sharm el-Sheikh

Sharm el-Sheikh is renowned as one of the most popular beach destinations along the Egyptian coast, and it’s easy to see why. This coastal paradise boasts not only beautiful beaches but also vibrant nightlife and stunning coral reefs. With such a wide array of accommodation options available, choosing the right place can feel overwhelming.

What are the prime areas to consider in Sharm el-Sheikh? Are there neighborhoods to avoid? Let's clarify your options!

What’s the cost of accommodation in Sharm el-Sheikh?
The price range is incredibly diverse, with double rooms starting as low as €20 and all-inclusive resorts from around €60. International hotel chains and more luxurious options are available too, so your choice will largely depend on your preferences and budget.

✓ Naama Bay

Naama Bay stands out as the most bustling area in Sharm el-Sheikh, offering a lively atmosphere filled with restaurants, shops, and entertainment. This vibrant avenue is lined with various businesses and side streets that cater to tourists. While it may not be the most picturesque spot, it covers the essential needs of visitors.

This crescent-shaped bay features calm, clear waters, making it a popular choice, albeit crowded. The accommodation here spans from charming family-run hotels to expansive resorts with private beaches.

During our stay, we chose the Naama Inn Hotel, which offered a budget-friendly option with a great value for money. Although it isn't beachfront, it provides free access to a nearby beach club complete with sun loungers. You can select a basic fare or opt for an all-inclusive buffet, which pleasantly surprised us with its quality.

Here are some other recommended accommodations:

While Naama Bay is undoubtedly a fantastic area for accommodation, we personally prefer to explore options elsewhere.

✓ Ras Um Sid National Park (El Hadaba)

One of our most memorable days in Sharm involved visiting El Fanar Beach, a private beach renowned for its breathtaking scenery. While the beach itself might not be expansive, the adjacent coral reef is a snorkeling paradise, featuring vibrant marine life that captivated us for hours!

⭐ If snorkeling piques your interest, or if you're keen on other excursions from Sharm el-Sheikh, check out these activities for more options.

While we didn’t stay in this area, it’s a top contender for our future trips. Do note, however, that it’s slightly more isolated with limited dining options. Friends who stayed at the Jaz Fanara Residence absolutely loved it, so this is a great choice if you’re leaning toward this area.

Other appealing hotels in the vicinity:

✓ Shark Bay

If you’re looking to stay close to the airport and prefer a resort-style accommodation away from the hustle and bustle, Shark Bay is a fantastic option, especially for families. For those seeking a more lively atmosphere, consider staying near Soho Square.

The beaches in Shark Bay typically offer excellent snorkeling opportunities, although they may not match the experience at El Fanar. What’s more, accommodation prices here are generally competitive, making it an appealing spot.

Areas to avoid in Sharm el-Sheikh

While this is just our personal opinion, we wouldn’t recommend staying in the center of “Old Sharm.” While it’s a lovely area to explore for its authentic bazaars, stunning mosques, and dining options, we found it to be noisy and lacking in charm for an overnight stay.

That said, it’s not a dangerous area to avoid; it simply comes down to personal preference!

Final recommendation

Book your accommodation as early as possible. While this might sound obvious, it’s a crucial step often overlooked. Once you’ve settled on your dates, browse through hotels and make your reservations ASAP. Always opt for options with free cancellation, just in case your plans change or you find a better deal.

Prices can fluctuate significantly as your travel dates approach, making early planning a smart choice. Trust us, it’s a traveler’s best practice!
