1. Hiyala Mariyaad Cafe

Hiyala Mariyaad Cafe is a gem in Maafushi, and it quickly became our favorite spot. We loved it so much that we dined there at least four times. Their reef fish served with mashed potatoes and garlic rice (priced at around $8) is a must-try, as is the grilled tuna for approximately $7. The friendly staff and the pleasant outdoor patio make it a perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. Plus, they accept card payments, which adds to the convenience!

2. Café Amigo's

Café Amigo's is one of the most affordable options for dining in Maafushi. This small eatery, located in the southern part of the island, offers a diverse menu. We sampled their seafood soup (which was average), a delicious grilled tuna with fries (only 50 MVR, or less than €3!), chicken and egg noodles, and a standard pizza. Unfortunately, it seems the café has permanently closed, so keep an eye out for new openings in the area!

3. Harbour Café

Right in front of the harbor, Harbour Café is the perfect spot for enjoying traditional Maldivian snacks. For just 3 MVR (around 15 cents), you can try various local delicacies. Our favorites included the tuna and onion samosas and gulas—fried balls filled with coconut and tuna. They offer an excellent way to taste authentic local flavors without a hefty price tag. Don't miss the chance to sample them all!

4. Buffet Night at Arena Beach

We decided to try one of the island’s top-rated buffets, and while it was good, it didn't completely blow us away. The selection varies daily, but during our visit, we enjoyed noodles, lemon chicken, breaded fish, white rice, lemon rice, chicken sausages, grilled fish, boiled vegetables, fries, a salad bar, minestrone soup, and three desserts. The price is $12, excluding drinks (large water and Coke are $2 each), plus a 16% service charge.

5. Buffet Night at Crystal Sand

This smaller buffet impressed us more with its higher-quality dishes. We enjoyed spicy tomato pasta, dhal, tandoori chicken, wok-cooked beef, grilled fish, and fried rice. The only downside was that by 8:30 PM, they had run out of many items, and we missed out on dessert! Luckily, we received a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The price here is also $12, which includes water and lemon tea as well as service charges.

6. Fine Bake by Suzie

For those with a sweet tooth, Fine Bake by Suzie is a charming bakery offering both desserts and savory snacks for takeaway. We recommend the banana bread for 25 MVR and the chocolate brownie for 35 MVR. While they might not be the best treats we've ever had, they certainly satisfy a sugar craving after a day in the sun!

When traveling, consider getting a Revolut card, which allows for commission-free payments and cash withdrawals abroad. You can even score a bonus of €10 when signing up!

7. Sky Restaurant

Sky Restaurant features a rooftop that provides stunning sunset views, making it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. Their menu includes local cuisine, pizza, pasta, and burgers, catering to diverse tastes. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty meal or a light bite, you’re sure to find something to enjoy here.

8. Beach Club

If you’re in the mood for ice cream, look no further than Beach Club. This small shop serves delicious, artisanal ice cream with a selection of flavors. While their variety may be limited, the quality is excellent, with prices ranging from 45 to 60 MVR. It’s the perfect treat after a day at the beach!
