Where to eat in Praga

We’re not just going to share traditional spots where you can indulge in hearty meals and drink copious amounts of beer. We also include places that offer classic dishes for all tastes, like pizza and burgers, all boasting excellent quality-to-price ratios (thanks to Fer and Paloma for their recommendations!). Let's dive in!

* We strive to keep our articles up to date, but if you find that any of the restaurants on this list are closed or have different prices, please let us know so we can update them. Thank you!

1. U Fleku

U Fleku is a picturesque tavern that is, well, very well-known… to the point that you'll likely encounter more tourists than locals. But there's a reason for its popularity: the food is delectable and the beer flows generously. You can try the goulash, sausages with potatoes and cabbage, or dare to order the house specialty: pork knuckle, priced around €15.

The composed dish features a quarter of roast duck, 100g of roasted pork, 50g of sausages, cabbage, and both bread and potato dumplings (399 CZK, about €17)—perfect for the very hungry or for sharing! Often, live musicians play traditional songs, adding to the experience.

One tip: if you’re offered a shot of liquor upon arrival, be aware that it’s not complimentary; they will charge you for it! :-p

2. U Pivrnce

With great beer (and at a budget-friendly price: €2-3 for half a liter), U Pivrnce serves up homemade meals in a cozy setting. We absolutely loved this place and plan to dine here again on our next visit to Praga.

The soup of the day costs about €5, and recommended dishes include beef stew with Bohemian potato balls, homemade potato pancakes, spicy peppers, and onions, or tenderloin with Bohemian potato balls, cranberry sauce, and whipped cream, all for around €13. The portions are generous!

The atmosphere is casual, and the place has a unique charm—visitors can leave messages on the walls, giving it a personal touch. It's one of our favorite restaurants in Praga!

3. Naše maso

If you’re craving high-quality meat, this is the place for you. The menu at this butcher shop offers various options, including a plate of three types of sausages for around 255 CZK or sandwiches and burgers. It’s an informal, budget-friendly choice, perfect for a quick meal. Average cost per person: approximately €10.

4. Pivnice U Jary

Although it's not in a super central location, it’s worth the detour if you’re exploring the area or have a few days in Praga. Here, you can enjoy draft beer for 35 CZK (about €1.7), and daily specials range from €5-6. A main dish, a beer, and dessert can set you back less than €10. Not too shabby, right?

Our friends Fer and Paloma just spent a weekend in Praga and shared some fresh and spectacular info about more dining spots in Praga! Thanks, guys!

5. U Dvou slunců

This restaurant was highly recommended by Pablo, our guide from the free tour, and he couldn't have been more accurate. Located in the Malá Strana district right before reaching the Praga Castle, it scores high in location, service, and prices!

For food, we suggest the Pikantní hovězí guláš na černém pivu, a classic goulash dish with black beer sauce (absolutely delicious), and the hovězí svíčková spikovaná spekem, juicy tenderloins in a mouthwatering orange sauce served with knedliky, fluffy dumplings topped with cream and cranberries.

For dessert, we ordered ovocné knedlíky, a type of dumpling filled with fruit, all washed down with the marvelous Czech beer Pilsner Urquell (only €2 for half a liter—such a bargain!).

We consider this one of the best places to eat in Praga, with an average price of €10-15 per person.

6. U Parlamentu

We stumbled upon this place right after returning from our excursion to Terezin. Located next to the Staroměstská metro station in the Old Town district, it's also very close to Josefov, the Jewish quarter of Praga, making it an excellent option for lunch, dinner, or just grabbing a beer.

Here, you can order the Ragú z hovězího krku (beef neck stew for €8) or the pečené koleno (roasted knuckle for €8) served with roasted potatoes. The beer (pivo in Czech) is also very cheap, about €1.70 for half a liter.

Interestingly, this place seemed popular with Italians, as it was crowded with them. We also noticed plenty of pasta dishes on the menu—perhaps that’s why!

7. Beer And Friends

Our friends Fer and Paloma highly recommended this little spot: "On our way to our hotel, we stumbled upon this bar and decided to go in. There were only Czech customers, no tourists. It’s a small bar run by two young guys who treated us phenomenally. We had a great time and even taught them how to prepare our Kalimotxo!."

They have their own brand of craft beer, and we got to try the Patchwork Brewery (around €4 for half a liter), a delicious IPA.

8. U Dvou koček

This is an excellent option if you’re visiting the Old Town Square and its astronomical clock (Pražský orloj), as it’s just a short walk away.

The traditional dishes are quite similar to those offered at U Dvou Slunců, although the prices are 2-3€ higher. We ordered a Silný hovězí vývar s masem (beef and vegetable broth for €2.80) to warm up, and a Pečené celé vepřové koleno (a large roasted knuckle with vegetables for €16.50).

Interestingly, right across from this restaurant is the house where Mozart lived in Praga, and it's said he would often come down for a drink. In fact, they have a chair marked where the Austrian composer used to sit.

Don’t forget to grab your Revolut card (with a €10 promo), the best option to avoid fees when paying and withdrawing money abroad!

9. Vinárna U Sudu

While we know that the national drink of the Czech Republic is beer, we can’t overlook wine. Vinárna U Sudu is an ancient underground wine cellar with three bars, foosball tables, an area with live music, and a courtyard.

Prices are quite reasonable, with half a liter of beer costing around €1.80 and glasses of wine starting at just €1. This place has a unique vibe, youthful and entertaining.

It’s located in Nové Město (New Town), halfway between Wenceslas Square and the famous Dancing House (Tančící dům) in Praga.

10. Sad Man’s Tongue Bar & Bistro

While we are big fans of Eastern European cuisine, sometimes we crave something more "Western." And of course, you can never go wrong with a good hamburger. Here, they prepare them exceptionally well. However, they are not the cheapest; if you don’t mind spending a bit more, you can enjoy a top-quality hamburger with fries and a drink for about €12.

The venue is very cool, decorated in American 60s style, and the staff is very friendly.

11. Johnny Pizza

And of course, when it comes to casual dining, we can't overlook our favorite culinary delight: pizza. This place makes excellent pizza. The margherita (50 cm) costs about €10 (enough for two), while pizzas with various toppings (also 50 cm) range from €12-14. The smaller ones (33 cm) go for around €6-8.

If the weather permits, grab a pizza and take it to the riverside or to a square—it's one of the best things to do in Praga when the sun is shining!

12. U Magistra Kelly (Note: closed!)

A traditional place with a not overly extensive menu, but what they offer is delicious. Recommended dishes include beef goulash (for €5.4) and potato dumplings (for €6). If you're feeling hungrier, you might opt for the knuckle dish (around €9), one of the must-try recipes in Praga. They make it exceptionally well!

NOTE: We’ve been informed that this restaurant has closed; however, there's one nearby that's definitely worth visiting. It's called U Glaubicu, where you can savor traditional cuisine at great prices.
