Enjoy the Beautiful Beaches of Sitges
If you're visiting Sitges in the summer, one of the first things you must do is enjoy its stunning beaches. Often referred to as “the little Saint-Tropez,” Sitges has been repeatedly voted as one of the best European urban beach destinations! We personally loved the Riera Xica, where the water was crystal clear and inviting.
With over 4 kilometers of coastline, you can explore various beaches including:
- La Ribera
- San Sebastián
- Barra
- Aguadulce
Each offers a unique vibe, from family-friendly areas to quieter spots perfect for relaxation.
Delight in Local Cuisine
After a refreshing swim and soaking up the sun, it’s time to satisfy your hunger. Sitges has plenty of options for delicious, budget-friendly meals. On the seafront promenade, you can enjoy a delicious plate of paella for around €15 while gazing at the waves. For even cheaper options, try local kebabs, hot dogs, or hamburgers that won’t break the bank!
Additionally, exploring the more central streets can lead to delightful surprises, such as local beers paired with tapas for just €1.50, or a glass of Malvasia wine for a taste of local flavor.
Explore the Hippie Market
Post-lunch, a little siesta might be in order, but don’t forget to visit the hippie market if you're around during the summer. It’s held right on the promenade and is a fantastic place to find unique souvenirs and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.
Stroll Through the Historic Center
Make sure you don’t miss the historic center of Sitges! Start your journey at the stunning Church of Sant Bartomeu, which sits atop Baluard and offers breathtaking views of the town. This is undoubtedly one of the top things to see and do in Sitges.
Wander through the charming alleys surrounding the church, passing by:
- The Rincón de la Calma
- Palau del Rei Moro
- Palau Maricel
- Carrer d’en Bosch, where remnants of the ancient city wall can be seen
Keep exploring until you reach the cozy plaza of Baluard Vidal and Quadras, where you can catch a glimpse of the picturesque San Sebastián beach.
Shopping and Famous Streets
If shopping is on your agenda, stroll along the streets of Parrellades and Major before heading to the most famous and controversial street in Sitges: Calle I de Mayo, known as the street of sin. It’s a lively area that attracts many visitors and locals alike.
More Beach Time or Cultural Experiences
Did you manage to explore the town center and still have time before dinner? Head back to the beach! With multiple options to choose from, you can easily return to your favorite spot or try a new one. If the weather isn't ideal for sunbathing, consider visiting the Bacardi Museum located in the beautiful Town Hall Square. Here, you can learn about the Bacardi family's history, their famous rum, and the town's connections to the Americas.
Experience the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival
If your visit coincides with early October, you’re in luck! You’ll be able to attend one of Sitges’ most celebrated attractions: the Fantastic Film Festival, which started in 1968 and has since drawn fans of fantasy cinema from around the globe.
Culinary Delights for Dinner
After a day full of adventure, it’s time to enjoy a relaxing dinner without any guilt. You’ve earned it! Before heading back to rest, indulging in a delicious cocktail is almost mandatory in Sitges.
Capture the Sunrise
If you’re an early riser, waking up to watch the sunrise is truly a worthwhile experience, especially for photography enthusiasts. The picturesque views are sure to be a highlight of your trip.
We hope this guide helps you plan a fun and unforgettable visit to Sitges. We can’t wait to return to this beautiful little town on the Catalan coast!
