IATI Seguros: Experiencia y opiniones reales positivas y negativas

When it comes to choosing a travel insurance, the vast array of options can often feel overwhelming. With each company boasting unique features and benefits, the opinions of fellow travelers can be invaluable in guiding your decision. If you're curious about IATI Seguros, a popular name in the travel insurance industry, this article will provide you with an in-depth analysis of both the positive and negative aspects, along with our personal experiences with IATI Seguros.

Speaking of experiences, allow me to introduce myself: I’m Lety, the one in the relationship who seems to attract misfortune. My partner, Rober, has been fortunate enough to avoid needing travel insurance during our entire decade of adventures. But as they say, every couple needs a superhero, right?

We've all been through the process of searching for the best travel insurance. Generally, we focus on three main aspects: the price, the coverage, and the reviews. In this article, we'll break down both the pros and cons of IATI travel insurance, the one we've relied on for years:

Advantages of IATI Seguros

As with any insurance, some features may resonate more with you than others. Here are the standout advantages of IATI compared to its competitors:

  • Proven Track Record. With over 100 years of experience, this brokerage has established itself as a trusted reference in travel insurance, providing peace of mind for travelers.
  • Easy Enrollment. IATI has made significant strides in creating a user-friendly website where you can easily navigate through different options, allowing you to select the most suitable plan with just a click.
  • High Medical Expense Coverage. IATI has recently increased its medical expense limits, now covering up to €500,000 to ensure you are protected in emergencies anywhere in the world.
  • No Upfront Payments Required. Once you enroll, you can relax knowing you won’t have to pay out of pocket for medical services. This is a significant relief, as the hassle of seeking reimbursement later can be avoided.
  • 24/7 Spanish-speaking Customer Support. IATI provides reliable assistance year-round, ensuring that help is just a call away. In regions where Spanish isn’t spoken, they offer free translation services.
  • Specific Coverage for Diving. The IATI Mochilero plan uniquely covers diving activities up to 40 meters deep, surpassing most competitors that only cover up to 20 meters.
  • IATI Grandes Viajeros. This plan is crafted for long-term travelers or digital nomads, making it easier for them to manage their insurance needs while on the road. Check it out here.
  • Accidents in Motor Vehicles Covered. IATI is one of the few insurers that include coverage for motor vehicle accidents, a crucial detail to consider when reading the fine print of other policies.

Disadvantages of IATI Seguros

While IATI has its strengths, it's essential to consider the drawbacks as well. Here are some areas where IATI could improve:

  • Policy Number Accessibility. Always having your policy number on hand is crucial. In emergencies, identifying yourself with your name and ID might not be feasible, causing unnecessary stress. We recommend saving it in your phone.
  • Customization Options. While coverage for deep-sea diving is a plus, it would be beneficial to allow customization to exclude certain coverages and lower premiums for those who don’t require them.
  • Mobile App Limitations. The app is handy for accessing your policy number, but it could use some enhancements for better user experience.
  • Call Charges. While calls are typically reversed, there may be instances where you’ll need to cover the cost and claim reimbursement later, which could be inconvenient.
  • Dental Coverage. Dental expenses are not among the best in the market, so consider a dental check-up before your travels.

Is IATI the Best Travel Insurance? A Blogger's Perspective

In our view, IATI is indeed the best travel insurance available. Yes, we do earn a commission for every policy purchased through our links, but most insurance companies operate on similar affiliate programs. The difference is that you also enjoy a 5% discount when using our referral. Everyone benefits!

We would never recommend a service we don’t believe in. That would only erode the trust we’ve built with our readers over the years. We take our advice seriously; after all, when it comes to safety, there are no compromises.

For over a decade, we have relied on IATI for all our travels. Whenever we needed assistance, their service was impeccable. We know other travelers who have also used them for serious issues, and they reported equally positive experiences. Yes, there are areas for improvement, but ultimately, IATI's clarity, responsibility, and reliability make it a top choice.

The value for money is excellent, and their terms are straightforward. As with any insurance, however, it’s essential to read the fine print. Many negative reviews stem from customers who didn’t thoroughly review their contracts; some competitors have even more complex policies. Understand that no insurance covers everything, so invest some time in reading the terms to avoid disappointment later.

Our experiences with IATI Seguros

We’ve had to use IATI on four occasions, and while none of the situations escalated to major issues, having solid travel insurance made all the difference when things took a turn. Here’s a detailed account of our experiences:

Experience 1: Australia

Let’s just say Australia is home to creatures that can kill you—some even smaller than a fingernail. I found myself in a bit of a pickle when my face swelled up due to an unknown bug bite. It was my first time using travel insurance.

I sent an email and was promptly contacted with an appointment at the nearest medical center. After a quick consultation, I received antibiotics, and within days, my face returned to normal (I now have a funny souvenir from Australia!).

Experience 2: Colombia

Fast forward a year, I had another bug bite, this time during a trek in the stunning Valle del Cocora. This bite was behind my ear and made me look like Dumbo.

After a few days of worsening symptoms, we contacted IATI, and they sent me to a hospital in Medellín. The doctor was concerned enough to run tests for meningitis, but thankfully, it turned out to be nothing serious. The hospital visit cost around €500, all taken care of by IATI.

Experience 3: Hungary (COVID-19)

Our most recent experience was in December, right after traveling through Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Egypt. I started showing symptoms of COVID-19.

We called IATI, and within no time, a doctor and nurse arrived at our accommodation to administer a PCR test. Thankfully, the result was negative, and they provided me with some vitamins to boost my immune system.

Experience 4: Galápagos

Finally, Rober got to experience a travel mishap! While visiting a volcanic tunnel in the Galápagos, he slipped and hurt his foot. It was alarming as his toes turned purple and swelled.

We contacted IATI, unsure how the response would be in such a remote location. But within 45 minutes, a doctor arrived at our accommodation. After evaluating him, the doctor suggested a follow-up X-ray. However, given our packed itinerary, we opted to manage the pain without further intervention.

In summary, are improvements needed? Yes, but we firmly believe that IATI stands out as one of the best travel insurance options available today, especially for its transparency and reliability.

We hope if you arrived here seeking opinions and experiences about IATI, you leave with clearer ideas. And if not, or if you have your own experiences to share—positive or negative—please leave us a comment!
