1. D’Angelo

We stumbled upon this Italian restaurant conveniently located near our accommodation at Orpheas Rooms, and it was a delightful surprise. We enjoyed a delicious and affordable four-cheese pizza (the margherita costs just over €10—a steal in Chora) that, while not the best we’ve ever had, certainly hit the spot. We also tried a fresh pasta dish with authentic carbonara sauce (no cream here!), and it was truly tasty.

We had heard that they offer limoncello shots at the end of the meal, but alas, we didn’t get any! Nevertheless, it remains one of the best places to eat well and affordably in Mykonos. A bonus is its charming terrace, which provides a tranquil atmosphere, though it fills up quickly, so we recommend making a reservation or visiting during off-peak hours.

2. To Karteri

If you’re searching for an authentic tavern to enjoy traditional dishes made with local ingredients, Karteri is a fantastic choice. Situated on the outskirts of Chora, the menu features hearty and classic offerings like meatballs in tomato sauce, sausages, calamari, octopus, and an impressive selection of appetizers, including several vegetarian options.

This restaurant is also a great spot to catch a sunset. Although it has a rustic and simple vibe, it possesses a romantic touch that makes it perfect for a pleasant evening.

3. Sakis Grill House

One of the legendary and budget-friendly spots in Mykonos, Sakis is famous for serving some of the best gyros on the island (for under €10). Their souvlakis are another specialty, and they offer combination plates where the main dish doesn’t have to be meat (there are cheese and salad options too).

Located in the heart of Chora (Mykonos Town), this restaurant has outdoor seating, but it can get quite crowded and overwhelming. Our advice? Order takeout and enjoy your meal on the steps by the windmills, soaking in the sunset views over Little Venice beach.

Other great alternatives for gyros in Mykonos include ‘Leonidas’ and ‘Jimmy’s Gyro’, the latter offering halloumi and falafel gyros for those seeking vegetarian options.

4. Maizevelo

Similar in style to To Karteri, Maizevelo offers homemade and delightful cuisine in a rustic yet well-maintained setting. Located near Ornos beach, it’s an ideal spot for dinner after enjoying a day in the waves.

Recommended dishes include grilled sausages, talagani cheese with jam, and their take on Greek mac & cheese (pasta with tomato and cheese).

5. Cocotte

Cocotte is a traditional tavern with a modern twist, located right in the center of Chora. Recommended to us by our hotel receptionist, it appears to be relatively new, as it doesn’t have many reviews yet, but we absolutely loved it! For starters, the prices are very competitive (let’s hope they don’t increase too much). The food and service were top-notch.

On our last night, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner on their nicely decorated terrace. We ordered baked eggplant with feta, calamari, and pastitsio (baked pasta dish). Everything was delightful, especially the eggplant!

6. Rhino Vegan Restaurant

While not all taverns in Mykonos offer vegan dishes (especially main courses), there’s a growing focus on plant-based recipes. If you’re vegetarian, vegan, or simply looking to try something different, we recommend the Rhino Vegan Restaurant, where you can find everything from burgers to bowls and 100% vegan gyros/souvlakis.

Located in the heart of Chora, the prices are reasonable, with meals averaging around €10-15.

7. Yialos Café

If you’re looking for a place to grab a drink near the Mykonos port without getting overcharged, Yialos Café is a fantastic option. We only had some beers and zucchini fritters, which were absolutely delicious, but everything we saw on other tables looked equally enticing.

When it comes to prices, it’s significantly cheaper than nearby establishments: we paid €10 for 2 Mythos beers (500ml each) and €6 for a plate of zucchini balls.

8. Local Mykonos

Although they specialize in lamb, the menu is extensive, featuring meat dishes, gyros, skewers, burgers, and various vegan options. For Mykonos standards, the prices are not outrageous, allowing you to dine for around €10-16 per person. They provide great customer service in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

The only downside is that it’s located away from the center of Chora, so having a vehicle is ideal for getting there. They have ample parking available and a nice covered terrace to enjoy your meal.

9. Artisti PROZYMI Bakeries

When we visited ‘Ornos Bakery & Coffee’ near Ornos beach, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their products. The next day, upon visiting another bakery with identical offerings, we wondered if they were part of a larger chain—and indeed, they are! Artisti ΠΡΟΖΥΜΙ has its own locations and supplies other bakeries.

They specialize in baked goods but also offer fresh bread, croissants, cookies, cakes, and other pastries at great prices. We enjoyed coffee with milk and savory tarts (try the tiropita with feta cheese) for around €4.50 each. We even returned for some pizzas later—delicious! They often have a selection of takeaway food, making it an ideal option for a beach picnic!

10. I Scream Ice Cream

Not only does this place have a fantastic name, but their ice cream is incredibly creamy and comes in a wide variety of flavors. We tried the pistachio and strawberry, and both were delicious. While it’s a bit pricier—with the smallest cup (2 flavors) costing €5.50—those are the prices of Mykonos. What are we going to do, skip dessert? Never!
